Ayurvedic Treatment
Breast Milk Formation
Breast milk provides essential nourishment for infants and supports both growth and the mother–baby bond.
Formation of Stanya
Ayurvedic texts describe stanya as closely connected with rasa dhatu, the nourishing fluid formed following digestion. Maternal diet and nourishment are therefore considered important.
Milk Ejection
Contact with the baby, seeing or hearing the baby, affectionate thoughts and effective suckling may support the milk-ejection reflex. Regular breast emptying is also important for milk production.
Colostrum
The first milk produced after delivery is colostrum, referred to in Ayurveda as Peusha. It is an important early feed for the newborn.
Health guidance: Breastfeeding pain, fever, breast redness, poor infant weight gain or feeding difficulty should be discussed with a doctor, midwife or lactation professional.
